Our Farming Practices

REGENERATIVE DAIRY

LAND AND HERD CARE

We farm for long-term health: living soils, diverse pasture, and calm, forage-fed cows.
That’s how single-farm milk becomes clean, characterful cheese.

LIVING SOIL

Our fields keep living roots in the ground year-round. Deep-rooted perennials protect the old lakebed, build organic matter, and help rain soak in. When we reseed or establish annual forages, we till only as needed and quickly re-cover the soil. Manure and bedding are composted and returned to the land.

DIVERSE PASTURE

We don’t use pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic chemicals on pastures. Instead, we grow mixes of grasses, legumes, and forbs, adding warm-season annuals in hot, dry months to keep quality forage available. Cows move to fresh grass twice a day, which prevents overgrazing, supports plant recovery, and keeps swards vigorous.

CALM COWS, CLEAN MILK

We milk 10-15 cows and raise most animals on the farm. The herd is 100% forage-fed, with free-choice minerals and clean well water. Cows live on pasture whenever grazing allows and rest on open-air bedded packs in winter. Heifer calves stay with their moms until they stop drinking milk. We use antibiotics only when necessary for an animal’s welfare—because healthy cows make the best milk.
